Week 1 — Talks at HapRamp

in #hapramp6 years ago

Sharing the topics from Talks@HapRamp.

Here we are sharing all the topics on which our team presented a talk at the HapRamp HQ.

It was a good experience for all of us.

As of now, we formed no rules for picking up the topic or the form of talk. We are experimenting with this open model for sharing ideas and knowledge. Just to see what shape it takes on its own.

The topic, speaker, and a short excerpt from the talk is as follows—

Day — 1

Functioning of STEEM Rewards Pool by @vikonomics

The speaker explained how the STEEM Rewards pool functions and shared the technical details from the Steem white paper about the same. We took our own financial model and platform as a test case to understand how it affects us. The Q&A session was interesting.

Excerpt:
“…On steemit, people get rewarded either for creating content of curating content. 75% of the Steem created every day goes to the rewards pool. And from there it gets redistributed to the users of the platform…The reward is based on the number of up-votes a post receives, the value of an up-vote depends on Steem power of the curator…”

Day — 2

The Lesser Known Ingredients to Success by @singhpratyush

The speaker talked about how the time of birth could play a decisive role in life. Drawing interesting stories from the book ‘Outliers: The Story of Success’ by Malcolm Gladwell and using data to support those statements made this an interesting talk.

Excerpt:
“…extraordinary success requires Hard Work, Ambition, and Talent... But, out of 75 richest Americans in human history, 14 were born within 9 years of one another. Why? Due to the biggest revolution in American history (in the 1860s and 1870s)… The time of our birth matters here…”

Day — 3

Design Thinking by @ansarimofid

Our Design Lead leaves nothing behind when it comes to teaching ‘Design’. This was like a classroom session, the only difference is that we actually learned a lot of new things 😅

Excerpt:
“…Design Thinking primarily focuses on the needs of people, possibility of technology and business needs. It’s an iterative process in which we try to understand user’s need, redefine existing problem and try to find alternative solution that might not be possible with our initial understanding of user...The 5 steps of Design Thinking Framework are — Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test…”

Day — 4

A Practical Approach to Meditation by @the-dragon

After Meditating for 30 days, the speaker shared his experience on how meditation is helping him, and how newbies should approach meditation. We did two short meditation sessions too in between the talk. It was refreshing.

Excerpt:
“…Headspace has made meditation simple and fun for me. For the first time, I can actually do it on a streak for 30 days. You all should try this and see how it helps. Meditation is simply ‘A process of focusing your mind on a particular activity or thought’…”

You should be as natural as possible. Don’t meditate for the sake of meditation.

Day — 5

Google AdSense by @bxute

This was really fascinating for all of us because Internet affects our lives to an extent that we can’t imagine a world without it. The speaker brought interesting statistics about the Advertising Industry and how it is the backbone of the Internet. Along with it, he shared the

Excerpt:
“…we need not learn all the online advertising models in order to grab an understanding of what’s going on. Only Google Ad-sense can tell us a lot about the scenario. I’ll show you how your time and attention spent on the Internet is calculated in terms of CPC, CPM, CTR etc…”

Day — 6

Problems, Opportunities, and Jobs in Future by @rajatdangi

The talk started with imagining an abundant future with predictions of population growth in the world. The speaker shared how Automation and AI are swiftly taking over jobs and how we can prepare for the future. The talk emphasized on building right education ecosystem and sustainable growth.

Excerpt:
“…Everything that can be automated will be automated. The conclusion is that, to solve a problem we need to measure the actual size of the problem. And then act on the required scale or magnitude to realize a meaningful solution and bring change…”

“There will be fewer and fewer jobs that a robot cannot do better.” — Elon Musk
