Glance at the image above and you will understand. There's the world. The world in you. Your reaction to it. People often try to change the outside world rather than work on their inner world (the depressed moment) when they realize the answer has been dormant deep inside.

Ok. Plenty of people are depressed out there. Some can fall into the conditioned/learned helplessness where they become conditioned to beat themselves up without any grace towards themselves. There are those with full-time chemical depression, and those with "depressed moments." This is for the folks with depressed moments. This is geared to small depressed moments every now and then. When life gets you down...

There are many ways to battle depressed moments, and writing is one of them. I want you to understand I have been there. Now, on to combat! Combatting depressed moments with writing and other methods.

  1. Keep writing. Express your emotions and understand it is a creative outlet.

  2. Keep a pro-active life. When we are depressed we often become reactive and react to the world outside ourselves without any concept of understanding we control what things mean to us. You have a choice of meaning and always have. Your life is designed by you. You are either in the game designing life, or living by default. The choices are yours. You can choose happiness if you look. You need to look and hold gratitude "grateful attitude" as often as you can. You can choose sadness. You can choose meaning. You can choose fear. You can choose courage. Every moment provides you with a new fresh choice. You have the options to do things differently if you can get off subconscious auto-piliot. Get off that mental tread mill.

  3. You make your meaning, and can find good beautiful meaning around us. Only if you look.

  4. Stop comparing yourself and comparing your life to others as well as the past. The past is in the imagination. There is not a damn thing you can do about it. Your power is today... Tomorrow is also in the imagination. It does not exist outside of you. It is tapes you re-run in your head.

  5. Eat a good diet with good foods and healthy fats. Lift weights and work out it. It helps release endorphins. Brain Chemistry can change. If you disagree with that then I would say you are to be right about your failure. Some people are to be right about their failures. In other words they must violently justify their right to be wrong because it self validates their own ego.

  6. Meditate. I am one of those who said "I can't do it." It was a self-made lie. I did it after 90 days. We often make excuses rather than results. I chose to keep going.

  7. Watch what you put in your mind. If you are watching sad movies and reading sad books. Understand your subconscious is affected by what you read, see and hear.

  8. Get out in nature. Forest. Ocean. Woods. Get out and breathe clean fresh air.

  9. Learn Box Breathing. Link to Box Breathing

  10. Get out of your head and into your life. Having depressed moments is debilitating and can stop you from making positive decisions. Avoid over thinking and be bias-to-action once in a while.

  11. When you are at your best moments write some more. Do a bit extra and share it with others.

  12. Give yourself some grace and the ability to make mistakes. You can give yourself permission to be human. You are not a robot. You are not perfect either.

  13. You live in a belief driven world. There are only two beliefs disempowering and empowering. I would create a list of disempowering beliefs. Then analyze them carefully and find the counter beliefs to them. Is there a benefit to something that seems bad. Can you challenge it?

  14. Have gratitude. Keep a gratitude list day and night. You can't forget this. It is important. You must find gratitude in the smallest things.

  15. Challenge those depressed thoughts. Recognizing and challenging your inner dialogue. You can order yourself around like a drill Sargent if you need to break away from laziness.

  16. If you have deep anger underneath. Find an outlet to vent. Weightlifting is good and even long distance running. You need to speak to someone if necessary.

  17. Put your self in healthy social situations. We are social creatures and we need to understand our interdependence as well as our independence.

  18. Take up a hobby and do things you once loved even when you don't feel like it. Dying is easy living is hard. No one said it was going to be easy. Our thought patterns and beliefs are our responsibility.

  19. Watch a fun movie or a comedy.

  20. Avoid self punishment, or self abuse. If this persists speak to a professional.

  21. See a therapist if you have to.

  22. Understand there are 3 worlds. The outside world. Your inside world and your response to it. This is the most important rule.

#22 Yeah, so true. My response to it I'm really getting getting it these days. With the food, when researching I found that Magnesium deficiency could be a major contributory factor. Manganese is also really important for good health. Sauerkraut (contains vit K2) helps the body deposit calcium in the right place such as bones and not creating plaque in the arteries or brain.

Magnesium is good stuff.

Magnesium is very good and health for the mind and body.
