My beads came, and I finally made the necklace for my hubby! ♥ Lemme know what you think!
Editing to add that I gave him the necklace tonight, (our anniversary!!) and he LOVES IT!!!!
I finally made the necklace for my husband's gift! ♥
I talked about it in this post.
I have been wanting to get him an amber necklace ever since I bought them for the kids! Amber jewelry is super beneficial, by the way!
They are kind of expensive though, and there are always other things to buy. Since then we discovered shungite, which is a super cool rock that helps neutralize radiation from electronics. Or so they say...
It occurred to me that if I MADE him a necklace it might save me money, AND I could add shungite beads!
Not to mention, it is much more special handmade...
I am happy with how it came out!
If you remember from the last post, the first beads I ordered were waaaay too small. They were supposed to be 6-8mm, which would have been perfect, and looking at the beads, if they had sent the right size, they WOULD have been perfect! So I ordered the next size up, 8-10mm, and they arrived just in time! I was afraid they would not get here in time because they were coming all the way from Poland! But they did, phew!
Anyway, you can see the size difference between the two, the smaller ones are definitely not 6-8mm... BUT that is okay! I used them for practice! In my previous post I showed the anklet I made, and after that, I made a necklace of my own to match!
See the size difference? The correct size would have matched the shungite beads better, but I'm not upset about it, since the larger amber beads will make more skin contact.
His birthday is the end of the month, but our anniversary is later this week! I am thinking about giving it instead as an anniversary gift. ♥ I sure hope he likes it!
Thanks for looking!!!
I am very new at making jewelry, and I am having SO much fun with it! It is really satisfying to create something!
If you guys have any tips, ideas, or suggestions, let me know! I think I want to continue making jewelry of some kind or another. It is just too much fun. ♥
Have a blessed day!

Looks good! Have you seen the photos @jacobtothe has posted of the jewelry he makes? Also nice stuff.
Thanks! ♥
No, I sure havent, Im following him, but I must have missed that. Ill head over and check it out!
Very nice! I have some beading ideas to work on for eventual future posts. What did you use for cordage, and how difficult was it to select bead you could tread onto the cord?
Thank you!
I bought this on amazon. It is .8mm, and the holes in the beads were 1mm, so I thought that would be great. It wasnt really great though. I used a lighter to slightly melt and harden the end to get a tip, kind of like a shoelace, for easier threading, (it wouldnt go through without), and still, some of the beads had holes that were too small. (Irregularities in the beads.) I used it and it came out fine, but next time I want to go to the craft store and physically LOOK at the different cords and choose a different one. Also will select one with more of a difference in size between the cord and the holes. .2mm just was not enough...
(These are probably pretty basic errors by me, since I don't have experience, and am learning as I go...)
I would suggest a cheap spool of 30 lb. fishing line from Walmart along with some crimp beads and crimp bead pliers. At least, that is what I plan to test next myself.
Oh neat! I was wondering if fishing line would work... Ive not worked with crimp beads before, but I have watched how-to videos and they seem like pretty handy things.
Thanks for the tip!!
There will be a Steemit post once I actually make something. I would suggest using a JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's weekly coupon for the crimp bead pliers. I for mine at 60% off.
I also looked at their fancy monofilament beading cord, and did a little online search on my phone. It doesn't seem like it's really anything more than overpriced rebranded fishing line, although if anyone knows better they're welcome to correct me.
Good idea!
Well, the clear beading cord I found was super stretchy, but I dont know if that's the same one you are talking about...
Fishing line seems like a great choice, especially since you can select different weights so you know it will be good and sturdy. (I homestead, so I am ROUGH on jewelry and didn't really wear any until I made my own.)
Stretch cord is its own thing. Fishing line has very little give to it.
Yes, as someone who enjoys fishing, I know exactly what you mean. :D
It's beautiful and made by you!!
I Love, love, LOVE amber. I wear my amber necklace all the time. It is supposed to have health giving properties but I wear it because amber is amazing!
Thank you! ♥
Yes, amber is pretty AND beneficial! We love it here too!
thats super cool, I think he will love it! got me interested getting one now lol
Thanks!! Go for it! Amber is pretty awesome. :D
wow well done and nice post
Thank you very much! ♥
I never heard of shungite but it is pretty and does resemble amber. Now I must do some research and find out more about it! Thanks for sharing. 😀
Yep, do some research! It is some interesting stuff...
It does go well with the amber. Black and shiny. I didn't know they made it into beads until recently, but Im glad I found out!
you are a great maker .
Thank you! I tried hard. :D
