Aspidochelone

I've always been a fan of mythical creatures and one of my favorites has to be the island turtle or otherwise known as the aspidochelone. Records/stories tell that they are large whales or turtles that somehow develop patches of land which occasionally form an island. These islands lure sailors who are foolish enough to fall for the trap and are then dragged to the deep along with their ships.

Such a dark background for something that sounds so majestic and wonderful. I decided to change it up a bit and make a piece that shows a kinder and calm side of this mythical beast. The Island on its back has now become home to a tribe which the creature protects and vise versa. Anyone who dares disturb their peaceful lives shall incur the wrath of the "island".
