Hamburger Saint Project – Presents Posted, Task Completed
Random acts of kindness are easy, you choose a person of your liking and, without asking permission, you do something nice for them.
Maybe you pay their bill at a restaurant, leave a present on their doorstep, or shovel their car out of the snow, etc.
So long as consent isn’t a part of the equation, it’s easy to be a saint.
You just … be … saintly. Right? Imagine, however, your typical good Samaritan, walking down the street calling out, I’m going to do something nice for you, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. All you have to do is say, “Okay, please do something nice for me.” and I’ll do it.
Do you think this person would have many takers?
Probably not.
Being a participant in the Hamburger Saint Project is kind of like interacting and then becoming that crazy person walking down the street filled with good intentions.
To begin with, you have to take a chance and tell that crazy person, Yes, I want you to do something nice for me. By doing so, you consent to receiving a mystery present in the mail. What it will be, you have no idea.
Then, you have to become that crazy person and look for two Steemians who are willing to take a chance and say to you, Yes, I want you to do something nice for me. Once you have done that, and believe me, it takes time, you have to send them a present of your liking in the mail (anything, including re-gifted items will do).
In this sense, while honoring the life of Michael Barkey, a fallen friend of the movement’s founder (@lexikon082), The Hamburger Saint Project not only connects Steemians from around the world, it also carries Steemit beyond the realm of the Internet out into the real and physical world.
So far, The Hamburger Saint Project has included participants living in the United States, Japan, Ireland, and the Netherlands. How far it can reach and how many participants in can include is now up to all of you.
I’d like to give a special thanks to @gnimeets and @freakyfriday for agreeing to participate in this project and also for agreeing to carry it on. Giving things away for free isn’t easy. Believe me.
If you’re interested in participating in this project, or if the idea of getting a random present in the mail from a possibly far off place appeals to you, or even if you’re just curious to see what these two boxes contain, please keep an eye on the blogs of @gnimeets and @freakyfriday. I imagine they will be doing a reveal post in a week or so and after that, I am sure they will be looking for two more volunteers each (which makes four) to agree to pay it forward by spreading a little love and mystery around the world.

Maybe you and some other members from your community can begin a similar initiative. This particular one was started to honor a lost friend. Yours could have a different purpose if you like.
