Taking the Bendy mask from 2-D to 3-D
I thought I’d share some close up details and progress photos of how I took @guthrie’s Bendy and the Ink Machine 2-D mask and made it 3-D.
I originally thought about using puffy black paint for the teeth but I’m an overachiever. I cut thin strips of fabric and hot glued the seams together before attaching them to the mouth.
I utilized the eye pattern that I made to transfer the bottom line of his eye onto the mask.
I carefully piped the puff paint to line the inner and outer parts of the eye. It did slightly bleed through in some areas but Bendy’s all about ink and “bleeding” so it wasn’t a big deal.
I was pressed for time and it’s boring to work on a project at home alone so I took it with me to @coffetto. I cut out a long strip of cardboard and made horizontal slits on one side which made it easier to bend. I then formed it and attached it with duct tape to front face and back of the head.
Honestly, I have no idea how I came up with this but it worked. @iamredbar was already hanging out at our game table at @coffetto so I had him try on the head several times to test out the comfort.
We found that the head needed more stability so I cut some curved pieces and added them to the sides. I also added two strips on the inside and cushions of fabric on the interior later.
I waited until I got home to use contact cement to attach black fabric to the entire thing. The finished product looks really good! I’ll share the finished images within the next two days.
Ah it's looking so good! You're really paying attention to comfort and stability - it's going to be the best costume in town. Hopefully he'll get good use out of it, after all the hours you've poured into it. lol Can't wait to see the full ensemble. :)
I saved time and purchased him a footed onesie so he’s committed to wearing that for bed every night. He wants to wear the entire costume every day.
haha Perfect! My little dude still wears his "racer" costume from 2 years ago... it's starting to seriously fall apart now, and getting a little tight (fortunately he's fairly small for his age, so things fit forever) but I still can't pry it away from him. lol
Thanks for sharing..
good luck
Thanks!
