The Story of Hackers/Founders

It was the Spring of 2008, in San Jose, California. Laura Nelson had heard quite enough of her aspiring entrepreneur husband Jonathan's nonstop startup-talk: “I love you, Honey, but you need to get out of the house! Go meet and talk to other like-minded folks about this stuff.” Shortly after, the first “Hackers & Founders” meetup was held at St. John’s Bar & Grill in Sunnyvale. Five people, including Jonathan, attended. And the rest was history.

Well, not quite.

Within three years, Hackers/Founders (as it's now stylized) had grown to become a network of meetups for startup communities all around the world. Hackers/Founders chapters can now be found in 132 cities in 48 countries. In addition to meetups, Hackers/Founders also hosts educational classes, tech talks, and other awesome events.

Following a suggestion by Naval Ravikant of AngelList, the Hackers/Founders Co-op accelerator was launched in 2011 to provide concierge services to early-stage startups under a unique – and in our eyes, superior – business model.

The Hackers/Founders Co-op coaches startup founders through a personalized 100+ item checklist. The agenda points founders toward product and pitch development to prepare them for fundraising.
