Hi friends,I am continuing my post of "BASICS OF ETHICAL HACKING SERIES".

1.INTRODUCTION

Some basic definition you should know before starting:-

HACKER:
There are many definitions of hackers,some of them are:

"Hackers are clever or expert programmers who can gain unauthorized access to other computers.A hacker can hack through the security levels of a computer system or network."

"Hackers are those individuals who engage in computer hacking activities and always practice of modifying or altering(changing) computer software and hardware to achieve a goal that is considered to be outside of the creator's original objective.

According to the book I am taking reference,It says that:

"A hacker is a person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and tries to stretch their capabilities,as opposed to most users who prefers to learn only the minimum necessary."

CRACKER

Any individual who is able to break the security of a system is known as a Cracker.

SCRIPT KIDDIE

The term "SCRIPT KIDDIE" refers to the Crackers who use scripts and programs written by others to attack.
If someone is labelled as Script Kiddie,then it is assumed that he/she is incapable of producing his or her own tools and exploits,and lacks proper understanding of exactly how the tools work.By definition,a script Kiddle has no skills,No knowledge and no ethics.

PHREAK

A Phreak is a variant of a hacker.Phreaks are hackers who have an interest in telephones and telephone systems.

BLACK AND WHITE HAT HACKERS
In the world of hacking,these terms "Black and White Hat Hackers " are supposed to refer to good hackers(white )and
bad Hackers(black).Almost everyone agrees that a hacker who uses his or her skills for a crime is a black hat.

The problem is that most hackers like to think of themselves as white hats,a person who does the right thing always.However,there is a difference in the way people think.For example,many people believe that exposing security problems,even if it can be used to exploit the holes,is the right way to go.While others believe that exposing enough information is wrong and that problems should be disclosed to the software vendor only.

GREY HAT

All the disagreement over black and white hat has led to the adoption of the term GREY HAT'.L0pht(one of the groups associated with grey hat)believes it would be as hard for a black hat to do nothing but evil as it would be for a white hat to stay totally clean.

LAWS OF INFORMATION SECURITY

One should be aware of the facts that:

• Viruses,Trojans,Malwares cannot be completely against.

• Firewalls alone cannot protect you completely from any information security attack.

• Every cryptographic algorithm is not secure.

• Passwords cannot be securely stored on the client system unless there is another password to protect them.

• what can go wrong,will go wrong!.

Objectives of writing this post:

My main purpose of writing this post is to inform you all that there is no way to completely protect a network unless one knows what he is up against.Only by knowing how an attack happens,and what all an attacker can do to compromise with a machine,individuals and organisations can properly protect their systems.

Legal issues:

I request to all readers to follow legal procedures under all circumstances because you are hacking in to a system.
The government has made it mandatory to get prior permission before running any of the tools against any network.
There are many cyber laws made by the government,we must follow that otherwise It will be considered as a crime.

I have only basic information of ethical hacking learned from internet and by reading various books but I also want to learn it deeply.I want to join some big organization of ethical hacking institutes.But they are very costly.So I am finding a way to earn money and when I have enough money I will take admission to that ethical hacking institutes.
