What Future White Hat Hackers Should Start From?
Well, well, well. Something enjoyable happened on Friday! Our Kyiv office was visited by two little boys two future white hat hackers!
After saying hello to the marketing department (nothing exciting for them though), they rushed to the techs. And here the magic starts!
Our technical specialist demonstrated how EternalBlue is exploited with the help of Metasploit. He later explained that EternalBlue is a kind of vulnerability that allows gaining access to unpatched Windows software. In other words, if you don’t update your software in time, it will make you vulnerable to cyber attacks. What is more, not updated additions to a browser like PDF readers and plugins for interactive content are the most frequent soft used by malefactors (now I understand why I was advised to remove Adobe Flash Player on my old punchy computer).
By the way, ransomware attack WannaCry and cyberattack Petya were carried out exactly with the help of EternalBlue. This is one of the reasons why our team member decided to show this very vulnerability to the youngsters. He added that it is one of the most vivid examples how black hat hacker can gain access to sensitive data especially when there are no safety services and automatic updates are turned off.
It’s evident that the boys are deeply absorbed in the process, so we can conclude that the tour was successful. Hacken is happy that future generations are interested in cybersecurity and aspire to developments in this sphere.
