Veritaseum ICO gets "Hacked"! Inside Job?

News was out a few hours ago:

All these ICOs getting hacked and the people involved are responsible for keeping the price of ether down by dumping all the hacked coins imo.

What can be done to prevent this ?
My take would be to avoid ICOs all together. ICOs were a scam back in 2013-14 and have reappeared now but using ethereum.
