Hiking Snack Hacks  

Hiking or walking in nature is the best way to refresh and renew our bodies and minds.  Please always remember to bring a snack.  You might even meet someone else on the trail that needs a snack.  

When we are exposed to the outdoors, we must be prepared.

Remember always organic foods when possible! 

1. Organic raw nuts, like almonds or pistachios.

2. Organic raw nut butters, anything from cashew to tahini to almond butter-- maybe make some small sandwich or wraps. 

3. Organic vegan bars.  Not a food I'd recommend for everyday food, but on a trail is the best time to use them. 

4. Dehydrated foods.  This depends on the duration of the hike and how much drinkable water is available. Dehydrated foods can be dehydrating to eat!  I like toting kale chips. Kale Chips with a Kick 

5. Super healthy cookies Protein Chocolate Chip Ball Cookies 

6.  Roasted fava beans.  SO GOOD! 

7.  Roasted chick peas. 

8.  Dried fruits like figs and medjool dates. 

9.  Beans and/or Soup -Small thermos or light hot container of bean soup or stew can be epic in the great outdoors – this Lentil Escarole recipe is excellent http://www.engineeringwellness.com/michele-the-trainers-beans-love-escarole-organic-lentils-and-escarole/ 

10. Frozen black bean burritos.  Try it!  They can defrost while you're moving if you don't eat them too soon! Just wrap everything well and these foods will make it.   

Always make sure you have enough water, and a trash bag, of course. Enjoy!
