What I never wanted to see - 2
My friend was driving the car and I was seated next to him. We were going to see a common friend who is seriously ill. He is struggling with the final stage of cancer. There is absolute silence between us. Both of us want to say something, but the words did not cross the lips. It is very obvious that we are in deep on one side and very angry on the other side. We already received the news that our friend is left with a few ours of life.
I could not be silent anymore. I burst out saying, "I told him many times to quit smoking. He never took my advise. I knew that someday we have to face a situation like this".
"Don't talk all that now. It's all over now. Let us console his parents, wife and children:, my friend replied while driving the car.
Even before I could tell him something, our car entered the hospital. We parked the car and literally rushed to to the room where he is placed. As we entered the room, we found his parents, wife sobbing with tears in their eyes. For a moment we don't know what to talk. We slowly reached the cot where our friend is lying down. He looked at us with blank eyes. He was trying to tell something to us, but unable to speak. Tears rolled down from those life less eyes.
We are in a situation, which no one should be in. As we were watching him with our hearts filled with sorrow, doctor entered the room. He walked straight to the cot, checked his BP. He abruptly turned back nd started walking to the door. We both quickly followed him. after coming out of the room, doctor turned towards our side and asked, "are you his friends?".
"Yes doctor, we re" we replied with feeble voice.
"Well his heart is sinking, it's few minuted now" telling that he quickly left.
We suddenly herd everyone in the room crying. We rushed inside only to find that our friend left to his heavenly abode.
We all will die someday, but inviting death with our acts can certainly be avoided.
My close friend dying in front of my eyes, is some thing I never wanted to see.
It certainly is hard to watch a loved one (family or friend) die. Cancer takes way too many lives...even innocent children get cancer - having never smoked or done anything to deserve that disease. May GOD comfort you and the family in your time of sorrow.
