I just bought some sub-sonic 22lr ammo.

Tomorrow I will find out if it cycles my M & P 22 compact. I think it will, while the barrel is made of super strong carbon steel, the slide is made of a super light aluminum alloy. Most people say it wont cycle in any semi-auto but I have seen youtubers cycling their 22's with some sub-sonic ammo. Unless all those youtubers were liars it should work. I bought it hoping it will be pretty quiet, that is my biggest concern. If I ever have to grab my gun for self defense I may not have ear plugs with me and the people around me who will have to endure the sounds of me blasting away surely wont. If a madman with an assault rifle pointed it at a crowd of people. I don't want my returning fire to scare them just as bad as the terrorist or cause some of them or myself hearing damage. A small price to pay for your life but if it can be avoided I'll avoid it. If this sub-sonic ammo firing un-suppressed is significantly quieter and reliably fires I might make it my carry ammo . One mag of nice civilized sub-sonics and one mag of standard velocity is another carry option.

Remember the ones that misfire are great for campfire surprises called "campfire roulette".
