I think the American founding fathers saw the right to bear arms as a means to keep minorities and enslaved peoples under control. Clearly it's an outdated act and Americans are feeling the consequences with every incident. Time for change peeps.
Everybody has their own interpretations, mine is it was to protect from government, which is needed now more than ever. ;) times might change but people don't.
