Day at the range with Rowland
I went to the range today to sight in new scope on a couple rifles. Apparently a lot of other folks had the same idea and there were 8 cars at the long distance range when I got there. I typically have the range to myself or just 1-2 other people. This was a little crowded for my taste, and it was incredible windy 15-30 mph with lots of gusting. I decided to take to the pistol range instead which was more protected from the wind or at least a little more coming from behind instead of across.

This has quickly become one of my favorite pistols. It is based on a Glock 21 (.45 caliber) frame, but then has a modified barrel, chamber, and recoil spring that is specially hardened to withstand the much higher pressures of the .460 Rowland caliber. Kits to modify other brands of .45 and 10mm are also available. This shoots the same .45 bullet, but with a slightly larger case, more powder and much higher pressures. This now shoots with the power that exceed many .44 Magnum loads. However with the Compensator on the end, it is actually quite tame to shoot with just slightly more recoil than a .45 Auto, and MUCH less than a .44 Magnum.
This was only my third time out with this pistol, and my first time having the .460 Rowland out past 15 yards. I must say I am quite pleased with the performance. It is definitely more capable than I am at this point, being a bit out of practice. I am really becoming a fan of the red-dot sight, especially at distance.
Here we are at 25 yards (22.6 meters). That is not a person sized target, only 12x18 inches.

Out of practice and really pulled those two wide shots off. Knew it right away. All me, not the ammo or weapon. 10 rounds at 25 yards (22.6 meters).

Another 10 rounds at 25 yards (22.6 meters). Starting to settle in a bit. Again pushed that one shot to the far right. You can see I tried to manually compensate for the elevation this time. Need a little more sight tuning to dial it in center. I'm sure I can tighten this up if I start getting out more than twice a year!
