What if "the public" wants to kill you and take your house and make it into a hospital? What if they v*te and ask government to do just that, for the "safety and prosperity of the citizens"?

Rights aren't subject to public opinion, nor are they dependent on mob ("majority") rule. The wishes of 12 billion people don't trump the rights of one lone man.
