Episode 8 of #canitstopabullet Season 1 we pull a #Laptop #HDD out against a small, but formidable #Walther #pk380 Chambered in .380

In this test, we found that the laptop Hard Drive was not capable of withstanding the penetration power of a regular 94 grain FMJ round fired out of a Walther PK380 at the range of a about 10 yards.

Something to note about 2.5-inch laptop Hard Drives is that the platters inside are not made the same as standard 3.5-inch HDDs. They are typically made using a glass and ceramic substrate (Versus Stanard 3.5 inch drives using aluminium ). In disk manufacturing, a thin coating is deposited on both sides of the substrate, mostly by a vacuum deposition process called magnetron sputtering. The coating has a complex layered structure consisting of various metallic (mostly non-magnetic) alloys as underlayers.

Due to the core being glass and not aluminum, they are much thinner and brittle than normal sized HDDs. This makes for a much weaker target.

Hope you learned something! Look for our post next weekend!
