Interesting that the electric bass is a relatively new instrument. Try listening to music. And see if you can hear it. Only about 50 years old.
I am taking lessons on www.studybass.com right now and the teacher on there says what you need to do is view your instrument as just a tool of expressing your art or music.
So in the first place you are a musician or an artist, and only then a guitar player or piano player or whatever.
He says that is the best way to learn how to play the bass. Have you ever tried to learn an instrument? How did it go?
