IDEA: CONTEST TO BRING IN MORE TALENT
What i propose is setting up a contest trying to bring in more developer / design teams into the community. We should be trying to get way more startups popping up with more front ends and services for Steem. Best way i can see this being a thing as an incentive.
Ideas for contest:
$25,000 in STEEM, SBD or SP.
SteemPower would be a good way to make sure they stick around at least 13 weeks during power down. Hopefully that's long enough time for them to see rewards from their app / service to keep them interested.
1-3 person reward of the pot
This could take shape as first,second and third place, But we could also do this with winner and runner up allowing it to be split between two teams or persons.
4-6 week contest time
I would recommend four weeks if were just going to assume they will be able to find the right resources. Five or six weeks if we think they will need time to go over everything and plan. This would also be enough time to come up with their own resources if they need to make something if they don't like the current communities options.
Earning off app / service development
There is still people who don't understand they can make apps and earn off their users actions. I believe this is something that would need to be highlighted to people who would participate assuming they would be working with the blockchain.
We need to sell the idea
Offering small rewards would be fine and we would get some decent developers and designers. But we need to attract some overwhelming talent that we can rely on. Big contest bring eyes to the platform and instead of having to advertise this it would sell its self assuming it had a decent prize or reward.
Id like to hear you're opinions and ideas.
Please let me know your ideas id like to hear how we might fund this or how we could better the idea to on board more talent. But if we want people and startups to take us serious we are going to have to offer up something worth mentioning.

Great idea! I myself am interested in learning more about an app / business that could earn STEEM and the tools of doing so as I find such possibilities and opportunities intriguing.
Yeah it came in with hf 18 that you can earn on your app from users earnings.
What would we want to design first?
Well that all depends on what we need, i think we really need more front end portals. But we could need some new service that makes steem different from anyone else. Markets, tipping systems the works. Anything you think the community needs right now other then people?
personally I would love to see communities and the first STEEM community I would be interested in would be altcoin discussions.
Interesting idea. 25k might be a bit pricey though. Some definition of scope would probably be good too. Back in July we had a lot of devs throw together apps that looked cool/impressive but did not really do much to increase recruitment, retention, or the value of SP.
Oh thats why i put it in idea that way we can see what is a responsible design and development contest solution if done right get thousands of submissions. Even if we get a fraction of those which are likely going to be open source that way more useful tools to the community. One other thing is we need to give a reason why our block chain or our events.
This is summer many labs will be going on but if we can pull some focus it would be nice. I see no reason why the steem blockchain shouldn't be the it thing to be developing for this summer.

I have a great idea for creating a group that utilizes tipbots to get the word out, and that's just the beginning.
I had everything written out but accidentally deleted it so I'm going to write out a thorough piece in Evernote detailing everything like what coins we use to tip, how we can top up our tipbots for free and potentially make money Instead of losing it and so on.
