SWEN - Steemit World Event Notification
This is an idea for a Steemian powered, global event / news notification system. Notifications (Steemit posts) could be relevant locally or globally and used for information, generate/co-ordinate some kind of response or act as a live communications channel.
Here are some examples of events at the local or global level;
Missing person, road traffic incident, weather disruption, utilities failure, public information message, industrial accident, environmental issue, act of war, natural catastrophe.
Event notifications would be most useful if they followed a similar format;
SWEN message
Type of event - Chemical Spill
Location - UK, Bristol - Harbour
Time of event - 14:00 GMT
Status - Active
Latest information - (Scale, disposition of those affected, mitigation efforts underway and support requirements)
Evidence - video / photos / witness statements
Post Author Background - Bristol resident, yacht owner - witnessed the whole thing (especially when author has low reputation)
It might also be sensible to standardise the tags;
swen uk (country) Bristol (region) d17052017 (occurance date)
The purpose of all this would be to bring new utility and purpose to the Steem blockchain and perhaps give people all over the world a practical and valuable reason to use Steemit.
It could provide the beginnings of a new Steemian grassroots global news platform tied to reputation within Steemit and also a new disaster support and relief network.
What could be better than using Steemit to help people in trouble?
I appreciate that keeping people consistent with the SWEN messages might be tricky, but if Steemians start using it with what we have, eventually we will have a dedicated news sourcing app, event alert and support system.
We could do this now! I will submit an example SWEN shortly.

Generally a very good idea, that adds new value to steemit.
Just the tags need rethinkung, you should know you cannot write them like that.

I really like this idea. It would be cool to have a big interactive map where users can add news event to it in real time.
This concept has a real chance to compete with mainstream media, because the information will be breaking even faster.
That's a fantastic addition! I love it. Before something like that can be developed, if the community and steemit.inc support the idea, then we can be giving Steemians the opportunity to practide, start to understand how reputation will be essential for triggering relief efforts or further news etc. You are right about no other source of news being able to compete with speed or trust or value.

Thank you. The status would indicate an ongoing or closed situation. The author would need to edit the post once the situation was resolved. I was thinking to try to limit the need for additional posts regarding the same situation from the same author as they could update the original post.
