Cheap DIY humidifier for grow spaces

in #growing8 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,
Here is a small tip for a cheap DIY humidifier to use in your indoor grow space. As you know most seedling and many vegetative plants thrive in environments from 60-85% relative humidity, here is a way to hit that sweet spot using mostly inexpensive items found at home.

One item that will increase the efficiency that you may want to purchase, are these replacement wicks for standard humidifiers, which can be found here: https://goo.gl/qsjyi7

Simply place the wick in the bottom of a standard 5 gallon bucket with an inch or two of water. The wick will create more surface area for the water to evaporate easily.

Place a small fan on top of the bucket blowing out into the space. If needed drill some holes in the sides of the bucket to pull air across the wick. This 9" fan fit pretty well so I chose not to drill any holes but may add them in later. The stand of the fan actually locked it in place using the ridge on the bucket, pretty convenient=) I set the fan on low setting but probably can evaporate more water on medium or high.

Good luck, happy growing!

Wouldn't fan components inside corrode over time since they're facing the moisture? Any updates of how long this lasted?
