Introducing myself as a Gridcoin supporter (proposition to French government)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

So here it is, my first post on steemit.
I'm not a social person, everyone I know can agree with that. So this took some time.

But the challenge seems more important than anything else. I mean Gridcoin. Because yes, I'm here to defend Gridcoin, the project I joined only six months ago.

So many new things in that six months! So many joys, so much excitement, some tears too, and every time a new angle to appreciate the skills and cleverness of the wonderful community which is the Gridcoin community. Of course here on Steemit live a lot of wonderful communities, but how many among them can pretend to be also, in its own roots, a sponsor for science, through medical, ecological and fundamental research?

Why does Gridcoin need defenders?
For some reason (I'm not going to guess, it's beyond my grasp), Gridcoin's notoriety is not very well established among crypto-traders. As a consequence -- or is it a cause -- it is not very well established among 'civil' society either. Even in some scientific communities. So the Gridcoin community relentlessly targets the right social moves to play with insight rather than intoxication (I personnally play intoxication too though, thank you Twitter :-) to stand out from the crypto-crowd.

For the first time in my Gridcoin life, there's an opportunity to play a political move. The famous French deputy and owner of the Fields medal, Cédric Villani, has settled a public consultation about Artificial Intelligence which will end on january 6th. Good time for spreading distributed computing ideas, don't you think ? Among the various AI-related submitted topics, I think "Un écosystème pour une recherche agile et diffusante" is the most appropriate to talk about BOINC and Gridcoin.

So, my proposition to French government !

We can write in French on the #grc-french Slack channel teamGridcoin.
Feel free to submit here or on Slack any modification/clarification you would want me to address, I still can edit the document (but all votes will be reinitialized of course :-).
Thank you community.

Thank you for your introduction @zipity and the initiative you started.

Reading through the French text on the government website it covers in essence the activities related to BOINC and Gridcoin. I would add to your proposal that Gridcoin is the alternative to Bitcoin where the energy consumed for transaction handling and keeping the network secure is useful.

Even if it is not taken any further it at least provokes the discussion, which is good PR for Gridcoin.

Good point for mentionning Bitcoin.
I'll correct that.Done
Thanks parejan.

Great job!
Ha, Cedric, for those who think mathematicians are dull:

Thank you @hotbit. It's a real luck to have such an intelligent man in the government. Let's exploit that the more we can while we can!

It was great meeting you & your friend (terrible with names, sorry lol) in Paris back in September at the BOINC workshop, we had some excellent conversation over beers which helped evolve my user-data field proposal to the current 'proof of UserID ownership using public key cryptography', hopefully it will be accepted in the future.

Glad to see you're settling into the Gridcoin community, you're always welcome! :)

Hey @cm-steem, thanks for the kind words. This means a lot to me. As I said, social skills are not my best asset. Perseverance is. So I could never thank @magixkiller enough for backing me at the workshop, and it is in the long term that I can reveal my true potential! For now, I'm thinking of a series of Haskell tutorials to build a Gridcoin simulator, only for fun for a start but this can be useful to illustrate or compare different technical principles like PoS vs PoW. With ghci, the examples could be presented and handled very explicitely. Maybe this could populate the Haskell-friendly Gridsters community which only counts something like 2 people today!
