Gridcoin Node Explorers

in #gridcoin6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,

Again, I noticed today that according to Gridcoin Stats, the ODLK1 project is excluded from the reward pool. UPDATED: after clarifications by @sc-steemit, my understanding is that the information on the Block Explorer was correct, as it was published in the latest SuperBlock (details in the comments). Unclear remains why the project was skipped by the SuperBlock, despite the fact that it was in the whitelist and active.

Gridcoin Stats maintains a list of five different nodes that can be monitor on this link. Currently, four of them are out of sync, but there is no indication to see which one is used by the block explorer.

But this is a general problem regarding the sanity level of the Gridcoin. Node Explorers are an important element of a cryptocurrency algorithm, as people need to easily be able to explore the details of the network. Also for non professional users, we need an easy and reliable service to obtain statistics about the performance of our machines.

My topic is not to complain about the Gridcoin Stats (actually one of my steemit witness votes goes to @sc-steemit). Don't take me wrong, I really believe they are doing a great service to the community, but the question is how can we be more reliable and not to depend on a single source of information? In the past, we also had gridcoin.asia (not available anymore) and nuad.de (but there is no hint if this is still synchronized with the network). Is this something that the Gridcoin Foundation can support?

The reason for a project to be viewed as "excluded" is when it's not available in the latest SB. This can because of several reasons, like the NN nodes composing the new SB data didn't include it since it was down, or many other reasons.

As stated on the page

The "Excluded Projects" list are projects that has failed to be inclueded in the latest superblock, rewards will not be generated for these projects until they are inclueded again. This may happen because the project servers are down or it was voted out by the community. Please refer to the Gridcoin Projects Forum for more details.

This terminology may need a new name on the page though.

Regarding the "forked" nodes

Four out of five nodes are on the same chain, but stuck in sync because of a current issue with the rewards calculation. The design are working hard on the issue and will hopefully be out with a release to sole this soon.

None of the nodes have currently forked.
The page always uses the nodes that are labeled 'OK', which is the longest chain with the highest difficult.

Great to know that! Would be great to have an indication in the explorer page about the used node.

Thanks for the details, still would be interesting to find how a project can not be included in the last SB. For this particular one (ODLK1), it was on the whitelist, and there were plenty of WorkUnits available.

The nodes uses statistics from projects xml files, usually hosted on smaller servers as many projects are hobbyists. This is one drawback for Gridcoin, and a solution has been in the process for some time.

It has nothing to do with available work units or whitest status. It's still whitelisted, just lack the data to include it for rewards today. You should join the developer team on Slack if you have further questions.

Does that mean that you lose rewards permanently for the time it's not included or only until it gets accepted again?

You will get your owed rewards once the data is available for the nodes to verify again. If the delay is severel weeks, it may affect rewards, but that very rarely happens, especially if the project is up and running.

Your rewards are calculated by your projects Recent Average Credit (RAC) and has a decay of 14 days.

sc-steemit = startail? since i am not on freenode " shunned " and your website does not have an email contact YOUR SITE NEEDS FIXING!! Your news scraper does not work and has not since 8/10/2017 and you need to update we only get project news. Yeah , steemit changed code and you did not? I also like to say awesome stats and monitoring of nodes page , but why ASIA? I understand as Customminer asked me for good links to Asia and I know a little thing or 2 about BGP and peering and have DNS servers from every country to traceroute/ping to show ability from but would love to help the stability of your site... I mean , the foundation does dump 20k GRC into the faucet it should all work... If not startail , I am dearly sorry... If so , talk to lag there is an alt irc network or 2 not everyone steems nor social media and [email protected] would be nice you seem to have typos and ive tried reporting the News section/tab for a month. I love you and your site and <3 over the moon and the sun <3 I invested in http://gridcoin.ch but we will see where that goes I was encouraging a new up and comer! No openSSL!

News not working I know about. Steem changed their system, period.

Why Asia? Why not... I don't see your criticism here.

Foundation didn't dump money on the page, it went straight to users trough the Faucet. There is no longer any foundation funds left and the Faucet is running on donations from many of our users.

There is also this one, I don't know if you know it : http://grcexplorer.neuralminer.io/
Regards

There is another block explorer at https://gridcoin.network

I thought it was due to the indifference in stats after __ dutch__ crunched over 1M in credit and 100% quiting pulling a HIT N RUN on ODLK1 screwing everyone since there is an email , and communication and initial project application documentation it wasn't just lets make a vote remember there was 2 because __ dutch__ used the introduction of streemit to cry about it not being in English and of course he also along with or leader bitched about no SSL and @peppernrhino worked his ASS off to help the older female scientist not tech and server admin but boinc has an all in 1 solution for data processing not translating a project whom people such as __ dutch__ do not care about and watch him ride his RAC and there is a fault in the system and he is gaming it and its IMO as an admited Greyhat exploit in the GRC payout system especially when projects such as Amicable numbers that I have not cruched but a few WU here n there on a GTX750ti and GT730 but 0% of 128+ cores finally just dropped same as/with drugdiscovery@home its been 30-45 days!!
