An OS for simplifying the task of Gridcoin Crunching : BOINC OS

in #gridcoin6 years ago (edited)

Now everyone wants flexibility. Today Windows OS are famous because of flexibility and ease of uses. So here Delta and Benjamin Collings are two developers develops an OS for GridCoin crunching and support for BOINC projects. Their motive is to make this process simplified fast and easy to use.

Their mission is to utilize the computing power of world people who are online unnecessarily and there computer hardware is used for nothing. They want that people understand and use their computer power for the research project and strengthen themselves economically and also to the world by contributing to good projects.

BOINC OS is an Arch Linux based operating system which is originally made for support BOINC project and Gridcoin crunching with some more additional features. In BOINC, the main focus is to make it portable with more simplifying way as much it possible.

Features of BOINC OS-

  • Easy to Use-

It is easy to start with BOINC OS. Not much technical knowledge required. Only Flash then boot. After Booting configures and then finally start computing.

  • Portability-

The best feature of this OS is portability. We can run it into a USB and use.

  • Multiple Spins forms-

Many different version is available for many different use cases. You can get OS either server/headless computers or standard graphic install for the quick solution and computing or more complete operating systems for use.

Thanks for making an article about my OS! Well appreciated and keep up the good work!

Welcome to my post bro.

you should make an article that compares BILD & BOINCOS! :D

i don't know enough about linux to figure it out... are there AMD drivers on BOINCOS?

I was hoping that a community member could do something like that, it sounds like a great idea.

As for the graphics drivers, BOINC OS supports all graphics cards as long as they are non-legacy and comply with the Arch Linux packages. See here for more information.

So, if I get this right. You install this to a USB and then reboot the machine when you want to run BOINC for research or does it run it inside your OS (i.e. my windows machine)? Confused. Appreciate advice.

Bro it is not complex task u have to put usb flash with BOINC OS and reboot your computer then select BOINC OS and run that. . Thanks for read this blog.
You can read user manual for this.

Thanks, I appreciate this is not a complex task. In fact I have BOINC installed and running SOLO on two machines at home.

My question was trying to establish whether this was a new way of running BOINC without it being installed directly and also to give me the option to take it to another machine pre-configured. BUT, the key point is, does this entire USB start up as a complete OS, thus you reboot the machine or does it start up like a VM on the machine if plugged in?

I hope my point makes sense? Thanks for the link to this, as was not aware of it.

Yes, this is an entire fully functional OS on the USB which requires a reboot to access.

It's aim is to completely separate the user's original system from that of BOINC or make it easy to get some idle hardware running BOINC without having to go through the laborious, and in some cases, expensive OS installation process.

Thanks Delta for the confirmation. So it's a BRILLIANT idea, but also flawed for what I'd like. It'd be really useful if the BOINC app could be run with out install, thus able to do what I describe; but I appreciate that's not your tool to deliver.

...and to add... Rebooting machines to run BOINC wouldn't go down well at work, but, plugging it in and utilising spare capacity without installation (i.e. light touch on machine) would be brilliant.

Super hyped for a raspberry pi version of this.

Nice one bro

how about sbd, increased??
