Here's to Being a Gridcoin Newbie!
I called my brother today, had him walk me through the whole "setting things up" with regard to gridcoin mining and, after a few false starts, I am now up and running.
That's right, I'm mining gridcoin (I think), helping science do science-y stuff and doing some killer procrastination with my marking. Hypothetically speaking, I'm on the fast track but realistically I am probably going to be calling my brother regularly to ask what the heck is going on with this thing.
So here's to being a gridcoin newbie. Let the games begin!
Welcome to the community! If you need any help at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. The 'few false starts' you experienced are very common, especially if you are trying to get set up solo mining. That being said, I see you are in the pool so that should make life a lot easier.
If you would like to discuss projects to pick the one with science that most interests you, or to optimise your daily mining yield, I'd be happy to help out.

Hello from a fellow newbie! I have been chugging along for about a month now I think. I'm doing proteins and meteors. I'm working within a pool. I probably have enough to start solo mining, but have not decided to make the switch yet.
Show me anything even a tenth that cool a BTC miner could say.

@Vortac actually has some interesting articles on using his watercooled rigs to heat his home in winter, and then he ramps the rigs down in summer to stop them making the place too hot. It's a whole new way to think about heating. In a perfect world every heater should just be a computer doing something useful.
