Current poll about increasing developer pay is misleading and should be ignored/redone properly.

in #gridcoin6 years ago (edited)

Hello,

I want to voice my concern about the current poll.

My issue with it isnt necessarily against increasing the pay to devs as this is a legitimate question to ask but the current poll links to a post that is over 6 month old.

The post talks about $30 dollars per hour, not $60. The poll itself doesnt talk about the amount discussed until you click show results.

The only point when you see the $60/h is when you open results

Link in the poll https://cryptocurrencytalk.com/topic/85404-developer-compensation/ doesnt talk at all about $60/h on the first page. You have to look for it.

A thing like this should have been discussed ahead of time so that people know exactly what the poll is about.

Tighter methods of validating work need to be implemented as well.

Upvoting yourself with your own bot? Doesn't that seem a little dishonest?

I upvote every thread that relate directly to gridcoin. There's no preferential treatment.

The only thread I didnt upvote with it since I started it was this one. https://steemit.com/altcoin/@cutnatasha/altcoin

I personally don't see a point of having multiple threads when the thread is called "DEVELOPERS COMPENSATION" It keeps everything related to the issue in a contained thread. And usually you would go to the last page in any thread that is sizable and go from there. But this is just my personal opinion. The community knew we had a 6 month package and expiration was coming up and another vote would go from there. the thread is not hidden. then it was time for a new poll and there is one. People can vote to choose yes or no or abstain from voting. However I don't see a reason for the poll to be invalidated as it was clearly in the forum thread that after 6 months a new poll would be issued to extend the compensation package.

As for validation of work the pull requests are reviewed and tested before implementation. The forums first post made clear the 30$ rate to start off with. Feel free to vote in anyway you feel you should that is your choice. every gridcoiner has voting weight. cheers and hope your concerns can be resolved.

Maybe next time a poll like this is issued the Discussion URL can contain the page number as well where the post is being made to make this less confusing.

Linking to the page number or the relevant message number in the thread would be helpful. If there is a lot of conversation following the new proposal it will become difficult to find the beginning of the relevant conversation in the thread.

agreed, funny i mentioned that next time that should happen in dev chat but said comment number instead of page number. long day!

It should have been in a new thread. It's a different proposal, regardless of whether it threats the same subject.

I don't like the suddenness with which this poll appeared. Usually, a poll is accompanied by a Steemit post. From reading the linked thread, it's clear that no case has been made for $60/hr. This makes me suspicious. It's probable that there's no malice, but the appearance has been created.

I have big concerns with this poll.

  1. Not linking to the proper location.
  2. Not talking about it and making a case for or against it before starting it.
  3. Devs voting to increase their own salary. That's a conflict of interest imo and they should abstain.

I'm ok with devs getting $60/h. I'm not ok with this poll.

The discussion of the current poll starts on Page 4, comment #58.

As for poll discussions, I don't think there are any strict rules about which forum should be used.

if someone read the previous thread messages on it it was mentioned there would be another poll after. the core ground for posts was cryptocoin talk. thou steemit, etc has been more utilized lately.

"If someone read..." Not many of us read cryptocurrencytalk posts. Moreover, many of us joined Gridcoin after the first poll, so the second is truly a surprise to us.
