Gridcoin weekly project update - 29/Jan/18

Here is another weekly Gridcoin project stats update where I look at the project chart developments and highlight an interesting aspect. This time I will be comparing whitelisted projects according to the categories as defined on the BOINC website and how they have been performing in the past months.

Last week I made a comparison between CPU and GPU projects [here] and found little performance differences between them. Because the differences between individual projects is substantial, I have taken a different approach using the categories defined on the BOINC website.

I have compiled again an overview of 24 out 27 whitelisted projects and dividend them according to the 4 categories using the information from 14-Aug-2017 and 22-Jan-2018. DrugDiscovery@home, Sourcefinder and ODLK1 are excluded because they were whitelisted during this period.

In table 1 to 4, I have presented all projects according to the four categories with their percentage increase/decrease for the following indicators:

• Team Gridcoin RAC contribution
• GRC per 1k system RAC
• USD per 1k system RAC

For the overall comparison, I have summarised the four categories with weighted averages for the three indicators in table 5.

While examining the table above, I noticed this time clear differences between the categories. In the past 5 months the RAC contribution for Biology and Medicine projects have increased the most (+162%) and in terms of GRC and USD earnings per 1k system RAC, Multi-Application projects have performed the best (-12% and +120% respectively). It will be interesting to monitor whether this changes in the coming months.

And here is the table of GRC and USD earnings per 1k system RAC plus the charts for all whitelisted projects. The definitions per indicator can be found below the charts.

Definitions

• Recent Average RAC = The total amount of RAC produced by all systems within the Gridcoin network.
• Team RAC vs Overall RAC % = The proportion of RAC output team Gridcoin has produced as part of the overall RAC for the project.
• GRC per 1k system RAC = The amount of GRC you will receive for a system per 1000 RAC points. Example: You have a system which is running Rosetta@home with a RAC value of 3500. According to the chart on 30-Oct, you should gain 3.5 x 0.42 GRC = 1.47 GRC per day for this system.
• USD per 1k system RAC = The amount of USD you will receive for a system per 1000 RAC points. Example: You have a system which is running NFS@Home with a RAC of 4700. According to the chart on 30-Oct, you should gain 4.7 x $0.29= $1.36 per day for this system.

Gridcoin is an open source cryptocurrency (Ticker: GRC) which securely rewards volunteer computing performed upon the BOINC platform in a decentralized manner on top of proof of stake.

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is a distributed Internet platform and was launched beginning of 2002 and it rewards participants with credits for performed work. BOINC is an application available for multiple Operating Systems and uses the unused CPU and GPU cycles on computers to perform scientific work.
