Einstein@Home uses computer's idle time to search for weak astrophysical signals from spinning neutron stars (often called pulsars) using data from the LIGO gravitational-wave detectors, the Arecibo radio telescope, and the Fermi gamma-ray satellite. Einstein@Home volunteers have already discovered about fifty new neutron stars and the hope is to find many more (source: Einstein@home).
For BOINC users crunching this project, it is important to check which version they are currently using. Due to the fact that Einstein@home needs to update their SSL certificate to maintain compatiblity with new webbrowers, BOINC clients older than V7.4 may no longer be able to connect to the project server.
The change will take place on Tuesday 17-April and if you want to be sure to continue receiving work-units, either upgrade to the latest version or update the file ca-bundle.crt which can be downloaded from Github .

proof of stake. Einstein@home is one of the 24 whitelisted Gridcoin projects.
BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is a distributed Internet platform and was launched beginning of 2002 and it rewards participants with credits for performed work. BOINC is an application available for multiple Operating Systems and uses the unused CPU and GPU cycles on computers to perform scientific work.
