The Fireside Chat 21 - How, What, and Why We Crunch
Summary
This week we discuss our crunching gear, the projects we crunch, and why we crunch. We end on a question about what might happen if a large volume of compute moves to the network.
Time | Topic |
---|---|
1:15 - 3:00 | News Developer Update August 13 |
3:00 - 38:18 | Our rigs, What we crunch, Why we crunch |
38:18 - 49:22 | Effects of Large Computation Entities Joining the Network Thread mentioned in the discussion |

Join us for the next episode on Thursday, August 23rd, at 8:00pm EST, midnight UTC, on the Gridcoin discord.
Topic: The Neural Net is a critical part of the Gridcoin protocol. The final product of its process is the superblock. How does the Neural Net work? How can it be improved?
See you soon!

What is Gridcoin?
Gridcoin is an open-source blockchain that mints and distributes cryptocurrency in relation to the processing power a network participant directs toward data-driven analysis and scientific discovery. Currently, the Gridcoin blockchain is secured through a proof-of-stake protocol and monitors processing contributions to the distributed computing infrastructure, BOINC. BOINC, the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, hosts major institutional computing projects such as IBM’s World Community Grid, SETI, and data from the Large Hadron Collider, alongside projects developed by students, enthusiasts, mathematicians, researchers, and citizen scientists.
