Based on features alone Steem/SBD, Nubits/NuShares, BitShares, BitBean, Monero are all excellent. But there are also three other things: Exchanges, merchants, and holders.

Altcoin Exchanges accept bitcoin to get in and out. USD to Bitcoin and to a smaller extent Ethereum. That adds utility to Ethereum.

Merchants accept bitcoin all over the place but altcoins hardly at all. Hopefully with Shapeshift, this isn't such a big deal. Except you still end up having all of the bad sides of bitcoin when you spend.

Altcoins are supported by holders. Pretty much that is the only group that supports them. You are not going to spend your Vertcoin or your Steem or even SBD. You are going to trade for bitcoin or fiat and then spend that.

Perhaps the holding part is enough to push up the demand but the altcoins are each standing on only one leg each. Bitcoins stand on four.

Bitcoin is a good choice, it is more on the safe side but yea bitcoin will always have alot going for it. Greater risk greater reward. It takes alot more money to move bitcoin rather then these altcoins. With that being the case im will to place my bet on the alts. Got to risk it to get the biscuit.
