Latin Squares and Math Art

in #gridcoin6 years ago

Latin squares have been discovered as puzzles and out of mathematical curiosity. Now they are important concepts and tools in mathematics and science. If you have ever played sudoku… well, you already know what they are! Each symbol can occur only once in each row and column. There are special cases of Latin squares, where symbols on diagonals also occur only once. These are called diagonal Latin squares. An example, where symbols are differentiated by colours you can see below.

Now, as you already know what Latin squares are, you may create new puzzles or board games... or even make some discoveries in the field! And you don’t need to be a major in mathematics. Seriously! Read at the bottom of the article. Also, like myself, you can do some math art:

Is your computer bored sometimes? If you have a fairly modern computer, I bet it is. Most likely while you browse the web or write an article, 90% of your computer resources are asleep. If that’s the case, you may join ODLK (http://78.26.93.125/latinsquares/) BOINC project and search for orthogonal diagonal Latin squares (ODLS).

You can also join gridcoin and have your electricity costs offset or maybe even make some profits.
