It’s widely used calendar all over the world. It is named after Pope Gregory XIII, who re-introduced this age-old calendar to the world. Some of the interesting facts associated with the Gregorian calendar is really fascinating to know.

  1. The main purpose of Gregorian calendar is to change the Easter Date.
  2. Earlier times. Leap year was not included in this calendar.
  3. A section of Protestants in Europe thought it’s a catholic plot to denounce Protestants.
  4. When Britain adopted this calendar in the year 1752, it sparked widespread violence across the nation.
  5. English New Year began on 25th March (Lady Day) before the Gregorian calendar’s acceptance.
  6. Due to the spread of Christian missionaries and International trade created the popularity for this calendar across the globe.
  7. It’s also called New Style Calendar.
  8. It’s accurate to within one day in 20000 years due to its confused logic of determining the leap year.
  9. Gregorian Calendar replaced the prevalent Julian calendar .
  10. The Orthodox churches of Greece reluctantly accepted this calendar only in 1920!
