Be grateful for what you have

in #gratefulness7 years ago

I think that most of us really take for granted the incredible life that we have. I count my blessings especially because I visited my 50 year old niece who is completely incapacitated due to a motorcycle accident that occurred a little over ten years ago. She cannot speak, feed herself, go to the bathroom herself, comb her hair. She can't do anything and yet, as best we can tell, her mind remains intact, a prisoner to her broken body.

I have no evidence that her mind remains intact other than if you ask her a question, she seems to mouth an answer. I believe the only one who can really understand her is her mom, who has taken care of her tirelessly, for the past ten years. She is a real champion because this has to be a really difficult job but it is one that she does with love and hope that her only daughter will someday get better.

About a year ago her mom almost had her standing, and she was audibly saying a few words , she was improving. But things turned worse when she was diagnosed with a kidney stone. After a lengthy hospital stay, and antibiotics, this once otherwise healthy weight individual now weighs only 68 LBS!

The doctor asked the mom, "Are you prepared to let her go" She replied, "What a stupid question. What parent is ready to let their child go? NO, I am not ready to let her go! "

So count your abundant blessing everyday. Stop complaining about your petty inconveniences in life and truly realize how blessed you are. Be thankful that you are not in the hell that my niece must be in right now. YOU have it so good despite what you think. If you are riding a bike, please be careful and if you are driving a car, for God's sake, watch out for the bikers, Please!

Live like you are loved, because you are.
