“All of these descendants of Obed-Edom, including their sons and their grandsons—sixty-two of them in all—were capable men, well qualified for their work.”
1 Chronicles 16:8 (NLT)

• The text says the descendants of Obed-Edom were very capable men, well qualified for their work (1 Chronicles 28:8).

  • Strive to be the best in whatever you do, do not be a novice in your assignment (1 Timothy 3:6).
  • Develop your skill, that is, your ability to do something well; that you may be outstanding in your field of operation.

• God’s presence in the house of Obed-Edom, when the Ark of covenant was taken there for a couple of months, gave birth to a number of things—even a long time after the incident (1 Chronicles 13:13,14).

  1. “So David would not move the ark with him into the City of David but took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
  2. The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months. AND THE LORD BLESSED THE HOUSE OF OBED-EDOM AND ALL THAT HE HAD.”
    1 Chronicles 13:13,14 (NKJV)
  • The presence of the ark of God led to the blessing of the family, God gave them power, ability, to do things well—excellent spirit was imparted, lent, to them (1 Chronicles 26:8; Daniel 1:1720; 5:21).

• God gives skill and ability to do things well (Exodus 35:30-35).

  1. “And Moses said to the children of Israel, "See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
  2. and He has FILLED him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship,
  3. And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.
  4. HE HAS FILLED THEM WITH SKILL TO DO ALL MANNER OF WORK OF THE ENGRAVER AND THE DESIGNER AND THE TAPESTRY MAKER, in blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, and of the weaver—those who do every work and those who design artistic works.”
    Exodus 35:30,31,34,35 (NKJV)
  • If you are deficient in a particular area in your field of operation, you need to ask God for help (1 Kings 3:9; Matthew 7:7; James 1:5).
  • You need to do your own part in developing your skill, you attend trainings; however, you need the Holy Sprit’s help to do that successfully (Isaiah 48:17).

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5 (NKJV)

• The help of the Holy Spirit is needed.

  • Give yourself to reading and studying the Word (Joshua 1:8).
~ The deeper you are in the knowledge of the word of God, the sharper your understanding would be (Ephesians 1:16,17; 2 Timothy 3:15).
~ The Word of God will enlarge your ability to understand things if you study it under the leadership of the Holy Spirit—when you allow Him to tutor you (John 14:26).
  • Pray in the language of the Holy Spirit often (1 Corinthians 14:2; Jude 20).
~ Mind empowerment is by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:1; Ephesians 1:18).
~ You cannot have the Holy Spirit on the inside of you, relating with Him as you should, and still have a dull mind (I Corinthians 2:9-12; Daniel 5:11,12).
  1. “THERE IS A MAN IN YOUR KINGDOM IN WHOM IS THE SPIRIT OF THE HOLY GOD. And in the days of your father [ancestor], light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father—your father the king—made him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers.
  2. Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas [untying knots] were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.”
    Daniel 5:11,12 (NKJV)

~ The Holy Spirit will empower your mind to do exploits—mind boggling things.
~ The Holy Spirit will give you a sound mind to think and reason aright (2 Timothy 1:7).
~ He will teach you things you do not know (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:12,13).
~ He will bring to your remembrance what you have been taught (John 14:26).

  • The Holy Spirit is needed in developing skills, thus acknowledge Him in all you do.
  • Let Him be in your waking and sleeping thoughts.
Tell Him about everything you want to do, acknowledge Him in every step you want to take (Proverbs 3:5,6).

• Develop a strong fellowship, communion, with the Holy Spirit—cultivate His friendship (John 14:17,18 Romans 8:14).

  • If you allow the Holy Spirit, build a strong fellowship with Him, you will be the envy of other people—they admire your result and progress (Psalm 38:8).
  • Many believers have taken the place of the Holy Spirit, they have relegated Him in their lives, they do not always acknowledge Him; they only call on Him when they are confused or in problems.
  • They do not understand that they needed the help of the Holy Spirit in every decision they wanted to make and every step they wanted to take (Proverbs 3:5,6; John 16:13).

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will GUIDE you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, BUT WHATEVER HE HEARS HE WILL SPEAK; AND HE WILL TELL YOU THINGS TO COME."
John 16:13 (NKJV)

  • It is the room you give the Holy Spirit that He occupies in your life (John 14:17).
  • The Holy Spirit functions, operates, in a believer’s life based on the submissiveness of the person to His leadership.
  • A number Of Christians live by reasonings and logics, thus they fail. Logic does not always work.
  • The Holy Spirit will guide you, if you do allow Him, to think right and get answers to solve problems of life (1 kings 7:14; Isaiah 48:17).

• Skill development is a product of you and God—you do your own part and God does His own part.

  • You acquire skill through trainings and God empowers your understanding above your contemporaries to do exploits (Daniel 1:17-20).

"And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them [Daniel and his friends], HE FOUND THEM TEN TIMES BETTER THAN ALL THE MAGICIANS AND ASTROLOGERS WHO WERE IN ALL HIS REALM."
Daniel 1:20 (NKJV)

• You will not fail in Jesus’ name.
Peace!

In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit gave people the TEMPORARY ability to work on the Ark of the Covenant. There's nothing in the New Testament to indicated that the Holy Spirit gives people permanent skills today.
