Common Sense a phamphlet everyone should read
Good afternoon fellow steemians,
today i want ot take a moment to remind everyone of a great short read.... Common Sense, author Thomas Paine.
In his short pamphlet, he writes of the basic human rights that all mankind are afforded by their creator. As such these rights cannot be taken by anyone but their creator....not their government, not their employer, not their landlord...anyone.
this is important today as we citizens of many nations are coming under attack from our governments upon our freedoms in the name of security...
in Comon Sense, Paine writes of all governments being "but a necessary evil" , meaning that all governments are bad due to the power we lend them. Governments, no matter how well thought out, not matter how well intentioned, will eventually do what all governments do....grow their power over it's citizens. Your government, no matter how good you think it is, is bloated and wasteful... in the example of the U.S. government the federal government was supposed to only protect us from state/state conflicts, and foriegn conflicts... it was not meant to determine education, safety, environment, ETC... that was it, all other matters were to be handled by each state, determining how it chose to enact laws, uphold those laws, etc.. Over the last 200 years our federal government has grown to encompass a great myriad of things... mostly in the name of national security... Most of which are a fross overstep of it's powers. Although is it really? our government can only have as much power as we give it right?? ... or has our government, as we know it reached it's eventual end? For it says in our own preamble to the declaration of independence:
The Preamble, in simpler terms:
We hold these Truths to be certain w/o having to be proven, that all Men are created equal,
that they are given by God certain Rights that can not be sold, transferred to another person
or taken away by anyone, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these Rights, Governments are formed among Men, getting their fair
Powers from the agreement of the people, that whenever any Form of Government
becomes destructive and does not secure these rights, it is the Right of the People to
change or get rid of it, and to form new Government, laying its Foundation on such
Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to insure the Safety and Happiness
of the people. Carefulness will require, that Governments long established, should not be
changed for unimportant or temporary causes. But when a long list of Abuses to the
people by the government occurs, it is the Right of the people, it is the Duty of the people,
to get rid of such Government, and to provide new government and protections for their
future Security.
It is important to note that our Founders believed that our rights come from God. This means
that rights can not be taken away by or created by government.
I believe there is sufficient evidence that our government has grown itself into a suffocating tyrant that enslaves it's citizens through subjugation, by way of the use of labeling security as an issue of "national security". The erosion of our "god given" rights over the last 200 years, with the passing of each year and each governing administration....and most importantly, Americans have become excessively lazy regarding governance... it is not enough to elect those who reperesnt you, you must also hold them in check and call them out when they grant the government powers it should not have against it's citizens. That right is reserved for the state governments, and it's citizens...
and always remember this line from the preamble to th declaration of independence, it applies to the U.S. government as well as it did king george and the U.K. back in 1776...
But when a long list of Abuses to the
people by the government occurs, it is the Right of the people, it is the Duty of the people,
to get rid of such Government, and to provide new government and protections for their
future Security.
Thomas Paine was a very intelligent, smart man... he saw the trappings governments caused, no matter their creation in good will and faith.. It really is as simple as it being that the sole role of governments are to grow themselves.
I really think everyone should read Paine's pamphlet "common sense" . If you are a concerned citizen in any country, or simply interested in how a colonial gentleman thought and believed, it is a good place to start in my humble opinion.
