I agree.

I was hit as a child - I thought it was normal. It wasn't until I began interacting with other people, out of the circle I'd grown up in, that I realised it was not normal.

The only thing being beaten taught me was how to take a beating. That is not a lesson I wished my own children to learn, especially NOT at my hand.
