RE: The State Creates "Learned Helplessness"

in #government5 years ago

Awesome article! I was born and raised in Oregon. I’ve spent 12 years living in Hawaii. I’m currently in Mexico. This gas pumping controversy is so funny. After living in Hawaii (pumping my own gas) when I returned to Oregon I had mixed feelings about having my gas pumped for me. On one hand I didn’t like having to sit and wait at the pump until the attendant got to me, but on the other I liked being lazy and just sitting in my car and not having to touch the dirty gas hoses. 😂😂Saying it’s dangerous though if just hilarious! Unfortunately, like you point out it’s a perfect analogy for the outcome of all government interference on the mindset of the people. Freedom is dangerous, but slavery is slavery. 👍

You bring up a couple of excellent points. When someone else is required to do something for you, you generally have to wait and to be on someone else's timetable. Also, with learned or forced helplessness, it is easy to get used to being "lazy." I think we all would want other people to do certain undesirable tasks for us, but often it is unnecessary and irresponsible not to take care of it yourself. Could it be that the government not only enables laziness, but produces it as well?
