Our CEO Alexander Barabash Talks About the First Steps of GoRecruit

Alexander is a serial entrepreneur, who started his first company while studying at university. Over the years, he has built a couple of successful businesses from scratch. He has been always interested in innovative business ideas and that is why he is working on GoRecruit. In this story, Alexander talks about where the idea for GoRecruit came from, what were the team’s inspirations, explains how the product works and why 500+ companies have been already using it.

Hello!

My name is Alexander Barabash, I am 37 years old. I am a co-founder and CEO of GoRecruit. Once during a meeting with Vitaliy Volnyanskiy over coffee, we got to talking about the feasibility of creating a scoring system for banks, which would be based on borrowers’ social media profiles. We thought this topic was interesting, but banking specialists convinced us that such systems are already widespread.

You are all aware that the decision about whether you will get a loan is not made by humans, but automated systems that take into account dozens of parameters. Including the information you post in your social media.

Year after year, people post more and more information about themselves in social media, and it can be effectively processed and used for different purposes.

After a long and painful reflection, we began working on GoRecruit service, which allows to rate and compare job applicants based on the data from social networks.

We were inspired by the research conducted by the academics from the world’s leading institutions, who have proved the efficiency of social media analysis.

The studies of professor Donald Kluemper showed that a social media profile analysis is a more effective method of work efficiency prediction than an interview with a candidate.

I am a mathematician by training and my thesis was dedicated to the creation of an expert system. Encyclopedias will tell you that an expert system is an artificial intelligence system built on in-depth, specialized knowledge in a particular sphere, acquired from the experts in said sphere. Expert systems are one of a few forms of artificial intelligence that have become widespread and got a practical use. An expert system is a model of natural mindset according to which one makes an objective decision based on a variety of available options.

Even as recently as 15 years ago, HR professionals were saying that such expert systems allow to select the right specialists. However, it makes sense to use them only in big companies, since the price of a few thousand dollars is justified if there is a lot of vacancies. Today, in the times of cloud-based solutions, the use of an expert system is affordable for any entrepreneur or a company.

When the expert system GoRecruit compares and rates job applicants for vacant posts, it matches the personal and psychophysiological qualities of a candidate with the same parameters of the best specialists. But we need to understand that the system hasn’t just appeared from nowhere, it is based on the mathematical model and research our recruiters and psychologists conducted over 8 years.

What are the obvious advantages of the use of GoRecruit? Just a living example, my friend owns a trading company that has 6 managers working there, bookkeeping and everything else is outsourced.

He decided to hire another manager and posted an internet-advertisement for the job. After a week, 40 people responded. So what is next? You are going to hold 40 interviews with each taking up to 30 minutes on average? And how much time will you spend?

Considering the fact that my friend knows nothing about HR, like the majority of ordinary entrepreneurs, then the objectivity of findings made after the interviews will be very nominal.

It is much easier to send all 40 candidates invitations. By accepting an invitation, a job applicant agrees on the processing of personal Information. The system analyzes their data in social media and open sources. Every job applicant is assigned a number of points — you can invite to an interview only people who scored the most points. As a result, you will save a considerable amount of time. And money — the base price of evaluation of one candidate in GoRecruit is only $3.

The backbone of our team was formed in Perm, which is why GoRecruit was firstly introduced there. We successfully implemented the system in MFC (Multi-Functional Centre of state and municipal service provision) of Perm Krai. Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade of Perm Krai recommended the introduction of GoRecruit to Human Resources. We received positive feedback from recruiters of the largest Russian agencies.

Initially, there were three people working on the project — me, Vitaliy Volnyanskiy and Dmitriy Plotnikov. Later, Souheil Zakkar joined us; he has taken upon himself sales and marketing. Today, the team consists of 15 specialists in the spheres of artificial intelligence, programming, mathematics, economics and staff development.

Currently, GoRecruit works with the profiles from the social network VKontakte, which is popular in Russia and CIS, soon our system will operate with Facebook as well. After that, it will be possible to analyze profiles from the other social networks. We have tested the working capacity of GoRecruit in companies with more than 1000 staff; it has been used in over 500 companies. Our service is useful if there is a need for a mass hiring of line staff for such positions as call center operators, secretaries or PC operators and so on. At the moment, the database has 50 professions. If necessary, and at the client’s request we can add to our system any specialties and take into account any requirements.
