Google has officially done work with Chrome applications on the desktop. The company officially removed the Chrome WebStore applications section leaving only the plugins and themes available.

Google had previously warned such a decision, and only 1% of Windows, MacOS and Linux users actually used the apps.

However, they are still available on Chrome OS devices, such as Chromebooks, and can also be accessed from direct links to the Chrome Web Store.

Most of the applications were simply a "bookmark" and few of them used system functions and hardware. Google came to the conclusion that very few people became late for them.

In mid-2018, they will be replaced by progressive apps. You've seen something similar in Android. They are full featured sites with icons and icons on the screen.

One such thing is expected to be offered on the desktop as well.
