Watch: How Google Pixel 2’s Camera Fares Against A $20,000 Hasselblad Camera

in #google7 years ago (edited)

When you pit a $20,000 Hasselblad camera against Google’s flagship Pixel 2, many would expect the former to outdo the smartphone gadget. The specific differences in picture quality though is another question that photographer Tyler Stalman aims to tackle in this video.

He’s invited professional photographer Jason Eng and model Ania Boniecka to help him dissect the performance between these two gadgets across depth of field, dynamic range, and sharpness.

Compared to the Pixel 2, which is largely more reliant on its software, the Hasselblad ‘H4D’ medium format camera that Eng uses has more commanding hardware with a larger sensor that delivers cleaner information and stronger raw horsepower.

Despite these advantages, the Pixel 2 does a decent job when in portrait mode, with generally clean-cut edges. This conclusion is similar to tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee’s previous comparison video, in which he demonstrated how smartphone portrait mode works and compares to an $8,000 Hasselblad camera. When zoomed in however, the image by Google’s flagship still can’t hold a candle to Hasselblad’s nearly seamless final delivery.
