Google Cloud strengthens its presence in India with second cloud region
Google Cloud announced today that it is expanding its presence in India with the country’s second “Cloud Region”. Based in Delhi-NCR to continue serving customers and the public sector in India and the Asia Pacific, it is the company’s 26th cloud region worldwide and 10th in the Asia Pacific region.
The Delhi-NCR region has joined 25 Google Cloud regions in North and South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region through the Google network. As a second cloud region, customers should benefit from improved business continuity planning while maintaining data sovereignty.
“The Indian market represents one of the fastest-growing
businesses for us globally because of the growth in large customers, in digital natives as well as in small and medium enterprises…Many organizations are looking to use Cloud to leapfrog technology,” Mr. Kurian said.
He added that due to the growth in the Indian market, the company is investing heavily in expanding our product footprint, engineering capabilities, and cloud region.
Google Cloud counts home-grown social network ShareChat, online travel firm Cleartrip and private sector lender HDFC Bank among its India customers.
Google has bet big on India. Last year, it invested $4.5 billion in Jio Platforms, the digital unit of oil-to-telecoms conglomerate Reliance Industries, from a so-called $10 billion digitization fund targeted for the country.
