GOOD NEWS! China takes largest floating solar plant online

in #goodnews7 years ago

Believe it or not, China wants to become the leading country regarding the use of renewable energy. The latest ambitious project is a former coal mining site, now flooded by rain water, turned into worlds largest floating solar plant. The location choice was intentional to send a clear sign by the government of China „no more fossil fuels“.

Advantages of a floating plant

The 40MW plant built by Sungrow has the perfect location for a solar plant. The water it floats on is useless for humans because it has been mineralised over the years. But the water is still good for cooling the solar panels and thus increasing the efficiency of the whole system. The customised floating photo voltaic arrays work efficiently despite the higher levels of humidity that is present when fresh water evaporates. Furthermore choosing the lake as location means that the plant is taking less space in the otherwise densely populated area of China.

The reorientation of China

China has long been offending the carbon emissions set by the Kyoto protocol with a heavy reliance on coal, but now the government has turned the page. China now Aims to spend at Least $360 Billion on Renewable Energy by 2020. From world´s biggest polluter to worlds cleanest country! Change is possible. Always.
