The Chicken Shawarma Delight
Greetings dear stemians, I would be shearing with you today one of me favourite snack prepared by myself, the Chicken Shawarma delight.
I've always been a supporter of good, healthy and delicious meals I guess that's why I fancy cooking my own meals myself because i love to get my own taste right, plus cooking is more like an hobby for me as I see it as an adventurous exploit and enjoy every minute I spend doing it.
Due to its high demand of Shawarma this tasty snack has become a popular meal on the streets of Nigeria.
Years back, I used to get the snack at an eatery and also wondered how I could re-make this tasty snack at home, with basic spices readily available in most Nigerian kitchens; including the Shawarma bread.
The Chicken Shawarma Delight is my specialty am good at it and I deliver the best taste you can find around. I would be shearing the recipe and how it's been prepared.
Note: The shawarma can also be prepared with beef .
Ingredients
- Chicken breasts (de-boned/boneless)
- Chicken thighs (chicken laps)(de-boned/boneless)
- Shawarma bread (either pita bread/flour tortilla wraps)
- Sausage
- Cucumber (cut into thin strips & circles)
- Small sized Cabbage (cut into thin strips)
- Medium sized Carrots (grated or cut into thin strips)
- Tomatoes (cut into thin strips)
- Medium sized Onions (cut into thin strips) optional
- Sweet corn
- Dates (cut into thin strips)
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup
- Spiced pepper sauce
Preparing The Marinade
Add the following ingredients to a mixing bowl.
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp curry
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Half a tsp black pepper
- Chilli pepper to taste
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 magi chicken stock cube or powdered sachet
- Chilli pepper to taste
- 1 tsp Vegetable /Olive oil
- Little salt
Preparation
After mixing the marinade ingredients in a bowl cut both the chicken breast together with the chicken laps into strips, I personally recommend using a combination of Chicken thighs and Breasts, because the fat from the thighs adds extra flavor and compliments the taste of the chicken breast. After cutting add the strips of chicken together with the mixed marinated ingredients and mix thoroughly until well incorporated then store in a fridge for up to 3-4hrs, normally the longer the meat marinades the better it tastes.
Wash clean and cut your Vegetables, the Cucumber, the Cabbage, the Carrots, the Tomatoes and onion and set aside.
Heat oil in a pan then add the marinated chicken and stir fry until juicy and brown. Scoop unto a plate and also stir fry your sausage then set aside. Cut your fried chicken into little pieces.
- Mix some mayonnaise and ketchup together (”mayo-ketch” cream).
Place a shawarma bread on a clean flat surface and split into two equal parts and put on top eachother.
Now on the bread add your vegetables proportionately, put some cream on the vegetable, sprinkle sweet corn and pieces of cut dates, put your fired chicken pieces, add your light fried sausage then add your spiced pepper sauce then lastly add more mayo-ketch cream.
- Now fold the bread, tuck in the edge, and roll to form a shawarma wrap them put gently in a shawarma toster or sandwich maker, this would take 5-6 minutes before your Chicken Shawarma is ready.
Yummy, enjoy.
