The new golf contests begin this week and will run through the month of September!

Before we begin, be sure to read my announcement post about the new contests and the formats, if you haven’t already. I will also attach that post to all of the contest posts going forward. You can find it below, as well as the announcement for the fantasy sports development project from @bacchist. This is a collaborative effort between us, as well as some other supporters and sponsors.

Announcing the 2017 Calendar Year Sports Contests and Development Funding

Introducing The Steemit Fantasy Sports Development Fund

The Weekly Steemit Scramble Contest

Tournament Information

The first week of the Steemit Scramble brings us to the Riviera Country Club at Pacific Palisades, California. Riviera CC is the host of the 2017 Genesis Open. Riviera’s golf course is a par-71 course, reaching 7366 yards from the “tips” – which refers to the tee box that provides the longest possible distance to the green on each hole. From the tips, the course rating is 75.6 and the slope is 137.

Last year’s winner was Bubba Watson, who shot 15 under par (-15), with a total score of 269 over four rounds. Watson also won the tournament in 2014 and he is expected to play in the tournament this week. You can find the field (all of the players registered for the event) here: 2017 Genesis Open Field

The current weather forecast calls for a fairly high chance of rain on Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday, with temperatures mostly in the upper 50s and lower 60s for the duration of the tournament. Thursday’s forecast is partly sunny with highs in the upper 60s. Stronger winds are expected on Friday, reaching 15-20 miles per hour, while the other three days may see winds between 5 and 10 miles per hour.

Player Selections and Multiplier

For the weekly Steemit Scramble, select three golfers from the tournament field that you believe will perform well and finish highest in the final standings. Based on the final results of the tournament, golfers will be assigned the following points:

ResultsPoints Awarded
1st place12
2nd – 5th7
6th – 10th4
11th – 20th2
21st - final cut1

This week’s 2x MULTIPLIER: Choose the winning score for the tournament, expressed in relation to par (example: +2, Even, -7). Each participant that correctly guesses the multiplier statistic will earn double their total points for the week.

Here is the top-20 Fedex Cup leaderboard as of Monday, February 13th. For the complete standings you can visit this link from PGATour.com.

How to Play and Win

  1. In a comment on this post, submit your three golfers and your prediction for the weekly multiplier. ONLY ONE COMMENT SUBMISSION PER USER, PER WEEKLY CONTEST.

  2. Submissions will be confirmed at the start of the weekly tournament. Tee times are typically posted the day before the start of the event. I will attempt to either update the post or leave a comment to announce the first tee time each week, but it will ultimately be up to participants to know the tournament start time. [EDIT] - TEE TIMES WILL BEGIN AT 6:40AM PST (UTC -8), or 9:40AM EST. ALL CONTEST SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ENTERED PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED START TIME AT THE FIRST TEE ON THE OPENING DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT. Late submissions and any edits after that time will be automatically disqualified from the weekly contest.

  3. There will be three winners each week. The winners will be the contestants with the most points gained, based on the points distribution outlined in Player Selections and Multiplier. All point totals earned from all contestants will carry over for the monthly and season-long contests.

  4. The contest is funded with a minimum pot of 50 STEEM. The total weekly pot distribution will be divided as follows:

PlaceRewards Percentage
1st50%
2nd30%
3rd20%

In the event of a tie, the pot will be split between the tying contestants. If the tie occurs for third place, then all tying contestants will split the 20% payout. If the tie occurs in first or second place, then the tying contestants will split the total payout for those places.

Example: A two-way tie for first place will split 80% of the pot (50% + 30%) and third place will receive the remaining 20%. A three-way tie for second place will split 50% of the pot (30% + 20%) and first place will receive the allotted 50%.

2 points... is that good? That doesn't sound good :p

Well, it's not a bad start for the first week of the season. If you're in it for the long haul, you have plenty of time to accumulate points for the monthly and season contests. A lot of people this week picked the top players from the Fedex Cup standings, but they mostly didn't play out.

Strategies should change as the majors roll around and more of the bigger names start getting into the tournament fields. And I'll be changing up the multipliers and might even have some other surprises to keep things interesting.

"In it for the long haul" yep that's a nice way of saying that's bad :p. I'm definitely staying to play, these contests add a lot to the site, thank you for putting it together.
