Chittagong is large port city on the southeastern coast of Bangladesh. The Ethnological Museum has exhibits about the many different ethnic tribes across the country. Zia Memorial Museum, inside the former Old Circuit House, displays items belonging to former president Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated on the site in 1981. The landmark Chandanpura Mosque has many onion-shaped domes and brightly painted…The Chittagong War Cemetery, northeast of the center, contains hundreds of graves of Commonwealth and Japanese soldiers killed during WWII. The city is surrounded by hills, including Batali Hill, which has sweeping views from its summit. Close by is Foy’s Lake, which has rowboats, plus an amusement park and small zoo. South of the city, near the mouth of the Karnaphuli River, is Patenga Beach, a popular sunset-viewing spot. Farther south, Cox’s Bazar is a town famous for its long sandy beach on the Bay of Bengal.
