Horizon of White Gold in Pure Air … Chiang Mai, Thailand – GoldenHour Photography

This sunset of white gold was one of the more unique goldenhour scenes I’ve witnessed during my year in northern Thailand.

From grand spectacles to blues and greys

At dusk on most days, this viewing platform on the rooftop of a local shopping mall attracts many spectators. Most often, we are treated to a grand goldenhour spectacle.  However, there are times when we see nothing but a grey and ever-darkening sky. Or a sky of fading blue.

Soak in the sight, breathe in the (clean) air

This particular sunset was unique in that the light was virtually pure white. I wondered if the white light may have been caused by the clouds … or maybe by the lack of heavy cloud cover.

In fact, I did some (very basic) research, and found that a white sunset can result from cleaner air; that is, when the atmosphere has fewer particles in it.

This is, no doubt, one of the finest sun sets I have seen in recent times. There is also no question about the brilliance of the man behind the camera lens.

Your title is quite catchy too. And thanks for the lesson in the last paragraph. It is a nice research finding.

Thanks for the compliment. I am, as ever, humbled by the undue praise.

This was one of those photos that I had thought would not turn out well. But with a bit of photo-shopping, it turned out quite good.

In particular, I like the contrast of the white light and the darkened city, where the lights are already glowing brightly against the black background.

I love this very photo quite well because of its uniqueness - the whiteness of the gold in the sky. It is interesting to know that you had to photoshop it to turn out quite well. That's what a professional touch can do.

My praise is not undue - kindly accept it.

I was in Chiang Mai many years ago. It has probably changed a lot by now.

Yes. I first went to Chiang Mai in 1998. A lot has changed, particularly on the outskirts.

But fortunately, much of the old city remains as it was decades or even centuries ago. I occasionally walk from my home, across the old city, to Tae Phae Gate, and whichever street I take, I almost always come across another beautiful old temple.

So even though it's changed, it retains its charm.

amazing

This is really beautiful! Any tips on travelling there?

I'd say just go. Travel light, and enjoy the smiles of Thailand!

Nice place to visit :)
It will be on my bucket list :)
