Bitcoin vs Gold

Here is a graph of the price of the price of one ounce of gold in bitcoins . Currently the price is approximately 0.45BTC.

The down trend of the graphic is not surprising since the the price of gold in USD has been reasonable stable during the last 2 years, and in the last 5 years it has been decreasing, on the other hand the price of bitcoin has been skyrocketing.

Will this tendency continue? Nobody knows. But we can have an idea of the long term outlook analyzing these figures:
According to the World Gold Council, there are approximately 180000 tones of gold above ground, in today price it is worth around 7.3 trillions USD. If we count the derivatives based in gold, the (paper) gold market is much higher.
On the other hand the current market capitalization of bitcoin is 47.5 billions USD and the total cryptocurrencies market cap is over 100 billions.

Since bitcoin shares many of the qualities of gold, many analysts say that bitcoin is digital gold. So if a small part of the capital of gold goes to bitcoin or cryptocurrency market, could have a big impact in increasing the prices and the market capitalization. For these reasons, there is a big potential for price increase in the cryptocurrency market; so in the long term the perspective of bitcoin is bullish. However in the coming weeks or months, it could be a lot of volatility in the market, due to the rapid increase in the cryptocurrencies market cap.
