In this experiment I extract Gold from a liqueur that contains gold flakes. I hope it answers any questions you may have about the process. Don't attempt this at home due to the dangers involved with the chemicals used in this experiment.

**The answer to your question: The reason I don't just dry it out and try to weight it - when dry, these flakes of gold would go everywhere with the slightest gust of wind. It's much easier to control and consolidate using mercury. Also, since the gold is so thin, the torch wouldn't actually melt, but vaporize the gold making it unrecoverable. Also, this way I'm able to make chunky little pieces of gold instead of just having the gold leaf I started with. Thanks again for watching and please feel free to comment anyway!
