Free gold ring update.
Here is an update on the gold ring I found metal detecting last week. When I dug it out of the ground, it was pretty ugly. There were some deep scratches and it was bent a bit. I had to get a picture as soon as it was unearthed. You can tell instantly if it's a noble metal, like gold or silver. Precious metals won't corrode like base metals will. See how shiny it is still. https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@dirtyhippie/do-you-love-free-gold In case you missed the original blog from the day I found it. To begin it's transformation I sanded it with 1000 grit sand paper to get the scratches out. I rounded it back out with a rawhide mallet and a ring mandrel. After it was round I put a brilliant polish on it. The planished texture was achieved with a jewelers ball peen hammer. The inside of the band could still use some polishing, but it's barely the same ring anymore. You can't go wrong with free metal detecting gold! I'm still trying to decide whether I should set a stone in it, sell it the way it is, or just HODLE till the price of gold goes back up... Opinions? Please #upvote #resteem and #follow If you enjoyed the transformation.
This is awesome!!!
And nice succulent—I believe that’s in the crassula (genus) nomenclature but I’m not sure the species —I’m a bit of a plant lover..
Jelly bean sedum I believe is the laymen's term. I love to mix my love for jewelry, gardening, and photography into one shot. Thanks for stopping by.
Sounds like my type of person!! You got yourself another follower
That's funny we had exactly the same amount of followers until I followed you. Your one ahead of me now brother lol.
It was meant to be my friend! Well now you need another follower haha
Looking forward to talking to you in the future. This spring and summer I’ll have tons of posts on my plants. I actually raise Bonsai as well so they will be coming out soon too!
Neat I actually took a couple bonsai culture classes in Junior College years ago. Can't wait till spring myself. Looking forward to seeing your trees.
It’s a great hobby, it really is. I’m fairly new to it considering the real veterans have decades of experience. There’s something really special about caring for something like that- I just love it.
Sadly I lost all mine years ago. I was living in an apartment with all my trees on the back deck. I tarps and shadecloths to protect them from the afternoon sun. There was a windstorm this one summer day while I was out of town. When I got back the tarp was torn off and all the bonsai trees where fried. A couple survived, struggled along, and eventually died too. My favorite was a manzanita bush that I dug in the wild. It had the most beautiful red bark. It was a pretty sad day to say the least...
Cool, talk about "up-cycling", well done!
Thank. I like how it's turned out so far.
set a stone in it, then wait the price of gold goes back up, and sell it :)
I might make a setting for this fire agate stone and put it on this.
👌👍

what a great find!! I need myself a metal detector!
I've also looked up h ow to make one using a radio. Pretty neat.
I'll have to look into that myself. I'd like to get a waterproof one eventually. Pretty much all of them are waterproof up to the control pannel. Be nice to be able to detect some of the deeper swimming holes around though...
Chances are I'd sell it myself, my buddy buys gold lol But for sure he'd hold onto it lol
I was debating weather to steembay auction it too. But the auctions are only in s.b.d. and not U.S. dollars. Kind of a risk if the steem price drops drastically in a week. Gold is pretty undervalued right now but I may sell it to increase my steem power. I can always find more lol...
I'm thinking of maybe putting some art on there, I'll have to watch it a bit closer to see what art is selling for
I'll have to figure out some other items that I could part with too.
That's really cool you found the ring and was able to transform it so well. If you do sell, maybe put it up on #steembay
Thanks for the post man!
I've been seriously debating it. My problem is that the auctions are in steem dollars not U.S.D. So say for an example if it was a $1000 ring and the s.b.d. price drops back to $3.50. Then I lose $500 bucks on the deal if the price drops in half... I guess it could be benifical if the price doubled. Just trying to figure out if the risk is worth the potential reward... Didn't cost me anything exept my efforts so far. So I guess it's not too risky lol. It's still tough
Totally understandable! I think HODL is best, but then again if you do decide to sell it, it would be cool to put it up on steembay. Who knows SBD could go to $100 and the ring worth #moon
I think I'll test the waters with a few silver pieces and figure it out from there. The best part about #steembay is that there are no seller fee's. I hate that about ebay... And Etsy for that matter.
I'd sell it. You never know what energy the original imparted into it
That is another factor I hadn't thought of.
