Gold Prospecting Trips - East Fork

So I packed up the kids and the gear and headed up the San Gabriel river to the East fork. We had been previously camping and digging near the Iron fork camp, but the last time I was up there I went up the East fork just a little passed Iron fork and found a really great spot.(Where I found my first nugget!) So this time we just went straight there and made a new place to camp. It's a really nice spot. The hole I had previously dug had been filled in by a flash flood. If you didn't know better you would have no idea that someone had dug a big hole there. So I just moved 5 feet upstream and started digging into that same bank. I found some nice gold, but no nuggets. The weather was great and the canyon was just beautiful. Everything was green, the wildflowers were blooming, and the river was flowing good. The rattlesnakes were out so it was a little sketchy hiking around with the dogs, but while we did see quite a few of them we had no close encounters. Thank goodness. Those things are scarier to me than the bears and mountain lions. They aren't aggressive, but you never know where they could be hiding. So ya, anyways we made it out alive, had lots of fun, and even found some nice gold!
